Earlier this month we sent one of our leading lights from Nepal, Dorchi Bhote, to Tanzania to climb Kilimanjaro. The trip was funded by the Kandoo Foundation, which along with funding a number of exciting community projects in the destinations we operate, also actively invests in the professional and personal development of our staff.
Dorchi is the second recipient of our annual guide exchange programme
Each year we try to send one guide from each of our core destinations to a new country where they can experience other Kandoo team operations with the aim of sharing and learning the Kandoo way from each other! Earlier this year our country manager from Tanzania, Emanuel Nguma, got the opportunity to visit Nepal and climb Island Peak!
For Dorchi the trip was the first time he had left the borders of Nepal and we believe there was much excitement and trepidation.
Dorchi joined one of our Kandoo Kilimanjaro groups taking the popular 8-day Lemosho route to the summit. He successfully summited on the 1st August 2016! As an experienced Himalayan guide with many 6,000m technical peaks under his belt we never doubted him.
Well done, Dorche!
