Jordan Travel Guide

When to go? Seasons, climate, festivities

  • March to May

There is a possibility of some light rain in Spring but this should not put you off. This is a great time to visit Jordan, before the scorching temperatures of the summer months take hold. In the higher areas such as Amman and Petra it could still be a little chilly in the evenings but the day time is sunny and warm.
  • June to August

These are the hot summer months in Jordan and temperatures in the low lying areas (Jordan Valley and Dead Sea) can be as high as 42°C. The mountainous areas with a higher elevation tend to be a more comfortable 30-33°C. There is rarely any rain at this time of year and a hot wind is common.
  • September to November

In autumn the heat of summer is starting to fade and there is an increased chance of some rain. This time of year, along with the spring, is the most popular time for tourism. By November the temperature in Amman and Petra could be as low as 20°C during the day but still around 27°C in the low laying areas.
  • December to February

In the winter the coastal and low laying areas will still be warm and dry but the highlands become much cooler with temperatures around 13°C during the day and 4°C at night. Petra and the capital city of Amman can even have a few days of snow during the winter months. Rain is common in the north western parts of the country during this time. In mid February the temperature is starting to raise again as the warm spring period begins.
