The summit of Mt Toubkal

Morocco Travel Guide

When to go? Seasons, climate, festivities

  • November to April

In winter, the High Atlas have a typical temperature range from 10 - 20°C during the day but night time temperatures can get considerably colder. At elevations above 3000m the temperature can drop well below freezing at night so a good sleeping bag (-15°C comfort rating) is essential. There is always the possibility of heavy snowfall during the winter months. The best time for a winter ascent of Mt Toubkal is in January or February when you are most likely to get the best winter conditions.
  • May to October

In the summer months between May and October the day times in the mountains are sunny and warm but the temperature will still drop significantly at night. You can expect temperatures up to 30˚C during the day and as low as 5˚C at night. Although rain is not common during the summer, it can occur at any time and you should be prepared for this.
