Argentina is a country that has it all. The pulsating city of Buenos Aires with its amazing street food and tango performances is an eye opening introduction to the country. Move outside the city and you will begin to discover natural wonders such as Aconcagua, the highest peak in the world outside the Himalaya, the Perito Moreno Glacier in Patagonia, the beautiful desert rock formations of Parque Nacional Talampaya or the awesome power of Iguazú Falls in the north. Travellers can visit the wine producing region around Mendoza to sample the local produce or join the locals at a football match in Bariloche. Football and tango dancing are definitely two things that will stick in your mind after a visit to Argentina!

For adventure travellers, trekking in Patagonia in the south of the country is the obvious choice. The near vertical walls of Fitz Roy and Cerro Torre attract thousands of trekkers and climbers each year and the Chilean National Park of Torres del Paine is only a short journey over the border. On the southern most tip of south America the archipelago of Tierre del Fuego can be found. From the town of Ushuaia, visitors can trek through the forests of Tierre del Fuego National Park or take a boat trip on the Beagle Channel to see penguins, seals and cormorant.

Whether your a culture vulture, an adrenaline junkie or a bit of both, Argentina really does offer something for everyone.

Patagonia

Aconcagua

The highest mountain in South America and the highest mountain in the world outside the Himalaya, Aconcagua is one of the fabled "7 summits". Located in the Andes east of Mendoza, this peak is a serious challenge for even experienced mountaineers. There are no technical climbing skills required but the high altitude and savagely cold conditions mean you need to be in fantastic shape to attempt this prestigious climb.

Mendoza

Wine tasting around Mendoza is a must for lovers of grape based alcoholic drinks. There are vineyard tours and accommodation packages to meet every budget from high end tasting sessions to cheap bike tours for backpackers. If you can drag yourself away from the bar the Andes mountains are on the town doorstep, including Aconcagua, the highest peak in South America.

Buenos Aires

Buenos Aires is not told, it is lived. The most visited capital of South America, nicknamed "the city that never sleeps", it will delight travellers. Buenos Aires is a cosmopolitan city with neighbourhoods that have a strong identity. But it is the inhabitants who give this city a crazy charm, the inordinate passion for football and asado (barbecue), the omnipresence of references to tango, the easy going nature of the Argentines, too accustomed to the economic upheavals of the country not to appreciate the small pleasures of life.

Fitz Roy

Mount Fitz Roy towers above the icy waters of Laguna de los Tres. Nestled in the Southern Patagonian Ice Field near El Chalten, it marks the border between Argentina and Chile. Standing at 3,405 meters tall, this unique rock formation is an iconic landmark of Patagonia's Los Glaciares National Park.
