Balloon safari over the Serengeti

See the wildebeest migration from the air

If you are visiting the Serengeti and have the time available, a balloon safari is a real once in a lifetime experience. And if you are lucky enough to be visiting when the huge herds of wildebeest are in the South of the Serengeti you will have a birds-eye view of the Great Migration

Hot air balloons leave from three sites in the Serengeti giving you the best chance to catch fantastic game viewing at any time of year and we can plan your itinerary to take you to the very best take-off spot.

Flights lift off at dawn when the winds are lightest so an early start is essential but this is more than rewarded as soon as you take-off. Each flight is unique, some high enough to view the panoramic landscape for miles ahead, others low enough to see individual animals at close quarters.

The flights last for approximately one hour and children aged seven and above will also be allowed to participate in and enjoy the hot air balloon safaris. Relish the experience of a lifetime along with your kids if you decide to bring them along as well.

On landing, you will receive your commemorative certificate and a champagne toast, then drive to join the rest of the morning’s balloonists for a full English hot breakfast, cooked out in the bush.

Our sumptuous breakfast will give you an extra positive push to your day as it adds to the adventurous buzz of riding and sightseeing in a hot air balloon over the Serengeti. This is not an experience you would want to miss out on!

You will also be able to charter some special private balloons in the Grumeti Reserve, which will be perfect for couples who are looking for an unforgettable experience for their honeymoon.

Do note that the hot air balloon safari cancellation policy requires that you apply for cancellation at least seven days before the date of the safari.

The Great Migration

The Great Migration

The Great Migration occurs around different times of the year where the tremendous herds of wildebeest give birth to a new generation and migrate to new homes.

The birthing period occurs between January and March, and from April to June they go northwest to the Grumeti River then proceed on their path north to the Maasal Mara.

From July to November, they cross the Mara River to rest on the grasslands until October or November then head back south to their breeding grounds to repeat the cycle once more.

The Great Migration is considered one of the eight Natural Wonders of the world. It is the largest migration of wild animals in the world and is highly regarded as an unforgettable experience.

During your tour, you will be able to witness their May to June journey as they pass through the Seronera River Valley. You and your family will be amazed by the sight of the vast amount of wildebeest in their migration.
