Arusha National Park And The Fight On Plastic by Burnham Arlidge 21st August 2015 Plastic waste is endangering animals in Tanzania

The war against plastic bottles on Kilimanjaro

The chief warden of Arusha National Park, Betrita Loibooki, has recently declared that new regulations regarding the use of plastic products will be enforced beginning on the 1st of September 2015.

In recent years an alarming rate of plastic products such as bottles, bags, nailons and salphets have been disregarded in the park. Damaging to both the environment and its inhabitants, the problem of litter in the area has been an ongoing one and is a constant source of concern for the park rangers.

A ban on plastic

Therefore, at the end of August the park announced that, as of September 1st, it would be banning all the plastic products mentioned above in an attempt to clean up Mount Meru and the surrounding area. The park wardens have recommended taking environmentally friendly products as an alternate and will be monitoring each person's items upon entering the National Park.

This decision no doubt comes after witnessing the successful ban of all plastic products within Arusha's sister park - Kilimanjaro.

Members of TAP

Kandoo Adventures wholeheartedly support this new regulation and have been a member of Travelers Against Plastic (TAP) for many years now. Travelers Against Plastic mission is to promote responsible travel, avoiding plastic products, especially water bottles, and finding environmentally safe alternative options that are re-usable.

Anyone looking to travel to either Arusha National Park or Kilimanjaro should be aware of these regulations and make sure they have researched the banned items before travelling as these products will be taken from you upon entry.
