Explore the stunning area of Tempelfjorden by ski/snowshoe and discover the thrills of the back to basics lifestyle where everything you need is in your pulk. This trip can be done on snowshoes or skis, it is possible to switch between the two during the trip depending on the conditions.

Detailed itinerary

Day 1Evening flight to Longyearbyen

Welcome to Svalbard. We will greet you at the airport late at night and escort you to your accommodation in the city under the light of the midnight sun

Transport: Aeroplane and private vehicle

Day 2Adventdalen Valley

Into the wilderness! After a hearty breakfast it is time to prepare for our expedition - this afternoon we start our adventure with a short leg of the journey to get accustomed to our attire. Skis/snowshoes on, pulks loaded and hearts full we depart via the beautiful Adventdalen valley. Tonight we will set up our first camp and join together in our warm communal mess tent for dinner.

Day 3 to Day 6Tempelfjord

Over the next few days we will explore the summits and highlights surrounding Tempelfjord & Fredheim. Our exact progress will revolve around the weather and ice conditions. There are so many things to see in this remarkable area. We can follow the small valley of De Geerdalen to the beautiful Krekling Pass (250m). We can explore the simply stunning Flowerscaret pass (750m) and Flowerbreen Glacier. We can discover Sassenfjorden and the wonderful mountains surrounding it. We can descend the beautiful Flowerdalen valley to the frozen coast. These few days are a chance to forget the stresses of modern day life and immerse ourselves in this silent, magical arctic world.

Day 7Back to Longyearbyen

Today we head back to Longyearbyen in Swedish army tanks, which will take around 3 hours. After unpacking and storing our equipment we will settle back into our guesthouse accommodation and enjoy a hearty dinner all together reflecting on our adventure.

Day 8Longyearbyen

Today is a day to relax and enjoy the highlights of the Northernmost city in the world, Longyearbyen. We recommend visiting Svalbard museum and you can choose from a variety of optional activities like snowmobiling or dog-sledding (additional charges apply). Today also acts as a safety day to accommodate for any potential delays in our journey. Overnight accommodation is not provided as we will depart for the Airport during the night.

Day 9Farewell Spitsbergen

Airport transfer in the very early morning for your flight home.

Comfort 1/5: Camping

This trip involves winter camping and includes two nights in warm guesthouse accommodation at the beginning and end of the trip. Normally we provide a 3 man dome tent per 2 people for maximum space and comfort. For our basecamps we usually set up a fully equipped mess tent for meal times, including a table and stools. We are proud of our high quality camping equipment and take care to monitor and store everything correctly.

Level 4/5: Demanding

You should be in very good physical shape and prepared for adventure; a positive attitude and love of the outdoors is essential. Please note that our difficulty levels may vary depending on the weather and ice conditions.

Insurance

We strongly recommend that you take out personal travel insurance for your trip as soon as your booking is confirmed. We advice you to purchase a travel insurance policy which covers flight cancellations, luggage loss and emergency health care. Please look carefully at which activities are covered by your insurer and do not forget to bring all necessary documents and information with you (name of the company, name of the contract, insurance policy number, telephone number)

Accommodation

Longyearbyen: warm guesthouse accommodation: 2-, 3- or 4-bed rooms, hot showers and heating plus shared kitchen and bathroom facilities. This trip does not include accommodation on the final evening because flights normally require departure at midnight this night.

Camping: normally we provide a 3 man dome tent per 2 people, for our expeditions we use light equipment which is suitable appropriate for Svalbard's spring conditions. We will also provide a spacious mess tent for meal times, fully equipped with kitchen equipment including a table and stools. Please be aware that we expect all clients participate when setting up and packing down our camps.

Budget & exchange

The currency in Svalbard (and Oslo) is the Norweigian Krone, NOK

Please budget for:

  • Any additional activities
  • Drinks and personal expenses
  • One evening meal in Longyearbyen, kitchen facilities, shops and restaurants available*
  • Food and perhaps accommodation during your transfer in Oslo

We recommend a budget starting from £25 / 290 NOK for a traditional meal in a local restaurant


Tips

Tipping is always appreciated - it is not obligatory and should be left to the discretion of each individual. If you are satisfied with your guides services we recommend a tip between 350 - 450 NOK per person (equivalent to £30-£40 per person).
